Yuck has been releasing lots of b-sides throughout the year and now they will all get a proper release with one of those deluxe reissue deals which I could criticize them for, but Yuck is possibly my favorite release of the year so I am 100% for it. Like everything else they have put out this year, this song rules.
Daniel Blumberg of Yuck’s side project Oupa have released what I believe is his first video for the track “Physical”. This project is more challenging and not as immediately gratifying as Yuck but definitely worth a listen. Forget is avaialble on cassette and digitally from Fat Possum.
New music video from Yuck featuring various people’s body parts juxtaposed together to create strange cut and paste humans singing the song. There is some artsy full frontal nudity that may be frowned upon if it shows up on the computer screen at your corporate desk job, so watch out. They have a newish 7″ for “Shook Down” with the non-album track “Milkeshake” which we have posted previously, but you can check it out again below.
We heard “Milkshake” live at Yuck‘s recent show at Webster Hall with Tame Impala and it’s well crafted pop song with the fuzz turned down. The track will be on a self released 7″.
Yuck‘s lead singer/guitarist Daniel Blumberg came onto the stage hunched over the microphone, almost mimicking the crude drawing on their album cover as he performed each song to perfection while making it look effortless. Their lengthy set before Tame Impala found the band performing a good chunk of tracks off their self-titled album, with highlights being “Get Away”, “Georgia” and “Operation”, the only song with guitarist Max Bloom on lead vocals. If you missed them, your in luck because the band will be back in a couple weeks with a headlining set at Bowery Ballroom.
Tame Impala played an incredible show to a smoke-filled room at Webster Hall Monday night. The Aussie psych-rockers played an-hour-and-15-minute-long set, which included “It Is Not Meant to Be”, “Lucidity”, and “Expectation” from their 2010 album Innerspeaker. The most cheers, however, came after a mindblowingly amazing cover of Massive Attack’s “Angel”, which you may remember is the first track off their hugely successful 1998 album Mezzanine…
Finally had a chance to give the b-side to Yuck’s “Get Away” single a listen and it’s on par with the rest of their self-titled album which is one of our favorite albums of 2011 thus far. Stream it below and check out the video for “Get Away” here.
Mog Music Network is boasting a pretty impressive party this at SXSW 2011 with performances from Big Boi, TV on the Radio, Okkervil River, Smith Westerns, Wild Flag, Yuck, Tune-Yards, Twin Shadow and Theophilus London. Show takes place March 19th from 12 to 6pm at The Mohawk on 912 Red River.
New video from Yuck for one of my favorite tracks on the record “Get Away” which has some tour / live footage montage along with some hitchiking,Cat Fancy, kaleidoscope camera views, and watch out because it gets kind of sexy at the end.
The band has a crazy SXSW schedule with 9 performances before a tour kicks off with Tame Impala. Check out the dates below.
Oupa is the solo project of Daniel Blumberg of Yuck which in the case of “Forget” shows off a lo-fi piano ballad. Look out for a full length LP also titled Forget coming in June.
A few tour dates including a stop at SXSW and and 2 in New York (one opening for Sebadoh) are scheduled.
Wow, this Yuck video for “Holing Out” looks like Beavis and Butthead should be watching this from the couch and maybe they will when the show returns this summer. I know we are only a month in, but Yuck’s self-titled album is one of my favorites of 2011 so far.
Another shoe gazy jam from Yuck who self titled full length will be out via Fat Possum on February 15th. Fans of My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain should enjoy this.
