Ty Segall + T. Rex = Ty Rex. Check out Ty Segall’s take on T. Rex’s “Fist Heart Mighty Dawn Dart” which will be released on 12″ for Record Store Day.

Fucked Up‘s Town Comp is a limited edition 12″ for Record Store Day 2011 featuring 11 tracks not on the upcoming full length rock opera David Comes To Life featuring some snazzy retro cover art. (I already regret the use of “snazzy”) These songs create “a fictitious compilation album from a British town (where David Comes To Life is set) circa 1978-83, in the tradition of local punk, post-punk and DIY comps of the era”.

Deftones have announced a covers LP to be released exclusively for Record Store Day on April 16th. The release will compile their various covers over the years including The Smiths, The Cure, Duran Duran, The Cars, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, Cardigans, Japan and Sade. No Weezer covers unfortunately. Our New York pick for Record Store Day is Generation Records where the Bouncing Souls will be performing a special acoustic set at 2 PM in the basement if you buy their 7 inch at the store. More details on their site.

Fear not, New England Metal Festers, there is a store in Worcester called That’s Entertainment that is part of Record Store Day. Only about 2 miles away from the venue, so it’s a convenient stop on the way to the fest.
