Deftones have announced a covers LP to be released exclusively for Record Store Day on April 16th. The release will compile their various covers over the years including The Smiths, The Cure, Duran Duran, The Cars, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, Cardigans, Japan and Sade. No Weezer covers unfortunately. Pitchfork is offering a one week only stream of the documentary “I Need That Record!” about the decline of independent record stores. The documentary features Thurston Moore , Mike Watt , Ian MacKaye, Noam Chomsky, Legs McNeil, Glenn Branca and more. The DVD will be available at select stores for Record Store Day which is Saturday April 17th. The first 10 minutes are embedded below.

Mastodon will be reissuing Blood Mountain on vinyl in standard and deluxe versions for Record Store Day this April 17th. Updated album artwork has been created for the release by the bands long time artist Paul Romano which can be seen below. Other exclusive Record Store Day vinyl includes releases from Black Label Society, Them Crooked Vultures and Gogol Bordello. (via The PRP)

Our New York pick for Record Store Day is Generation Records where the Bouncing Souls will be performing a special acoustic set at 2 PM in the basement if you buy their 7 inch at the store. More details on their site.

Fear not, New England Metal Festers, there is a store in Worcester called That’s Entertainment that is part of Record Store Day. Only about 2 miles away from the venue, so it’s a convenient stop on the way to the fest.
