It’s that time of year when CMJ Showcases and parties will start be announced. One of the first is from Sub Pop & Hardly Art which features a stellar lineup including J Mascis and Jacuzzi Boys performing at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday October 20th. Read on for set times.

Photos of Fucked Up opening up for Dinosaur Jr’s latest tour performing Bug in it’s entirety. The band played some new songs like “Queen of Hearts” and “The Other Shoe” along with favorites like “I Hate Summer” and “Son The Father”.

Frank Turner crossed the pond to play a super sold out solo show at the Knitting Factory with Franz Nicolay (formerly of The Hold Steady) opening. Check out some photos below.

Yuck‘s lead singer/guitarist Daniel Blumberg came onto the stage hunched over the microphone, almost mimicking the crude drawing on their album cover as he performed each song to perfection while making it look effortless. Their lengthy set before Tame Impala found the band performing a good chunk of tracks off their self-titled album, with highlights being “Get Away”, “Georgia” and “Operation”, the only song with guitarist Max Bloom on lead vocals. If you missed them, your in luck because the band will be back in a couple weeks with a headlining set at Bowery Ballroom.

Tame Impala played an incredible show to a smoke-filled room at Webster Hall Monday night. The Aussie psych-rockers played an-hour-and-15-minute-long set, which included “It Is Not Meant to Be”, “Lucidity”, and “Expectation” from their 2010 album Innerspeaker. The most cheers, however, came after a mindblowingly amazing cover of Massive Attack’s “Angel”, which you may remember is the first track off their hugely successful 1998 album Mezzanine. In a cute but very unrock-and-roll move, frontman Kevin Parker recovered from a trance-like state at the song’s end to announce the name of the cover in a surprisingly chipper Australian accent. The band’s trippy songs are so dreamy, veering off into shoegaze-esque moments, that it felt as though they might play forever. Inevitably the show ended and to much dismay from the crowd gathered at Webster Hall.

Generation Records had one of the most stacked Record Store Day lineups with performances by Obits (pictured above), The Jay Vons, I Hate Our Freedom and Spa Castles along with DJ Sets from Yo La Tengo (who also performed a song with Obits), Eric Davidson of New Bomb Turks, Tom Scharpling of WFMU’s Best Show, Bill Dolan and more. Indie shoegazenoiserockers ohnomoon are definitely a band to watch out for in New York City. The band is currently recording their first 7 inch, so no music as of yet, but you can catch them live next at The Rock Shop in Brooklyn on 4/21. Check out some photos from their set at Piano’s below.

Here are our photos of Cold War Kids recent show at Terminal 5 with No Age and Baths opening. The band ran through a high energy setlist that included tracks from all of their albums with a focus on new songs from their latest Mine Is Yours. Bright Eyes shows often go a number of ways ranging from drunken messes to amazing performances which the first night at Radio City Music Hall falls under. They have a massive catalogue of music so you never know what songs you are going to hear, but last night seemed to be as close to a “Greatest Hits” set that I have ever seen the band perform. Conor even went back as far as playing “Falling Out of Love at this Volume”, which he commented on being 16 years old (probably about the age he was when he wrote it) though still not as old as some of songs performed earlier by Superchunk. The set had a sprinkling of songs from most of their full lengths as well as half of the new record The People’s Key where songs like “Shell Games” and “Jejune Stars” really stood out. Show opener, Wild Flag, totally killed it, can’t wait for that record, unfortunately their 7″ was $10 at the merch stand. Look out for it on Record Store Day in April.
