Yuck‘s lead singer/guitarist Daniel Blumberg came onto the stage hunched over the microphone, almost mimicking the crude drawing on their album cover as he performed each song to perfection while making it look effortless. Their lengthy set before Tame Impala found the band performing a good chunk of tracks off their self-titled album, with highlights being “Get Away”, “Georgia” and “Operation”, the only song with guitarist Max Bloom on lead vocals. If you missed them, your in luck because the band will be back in a couple weeks with a headlining set at Bowery Ballroom.

Tame Impala played an incredible show to a smoke-filled room at Webster Hall Monday night. The Aussie psych-rockers played an-hour-and-15-minute-long set, which included “It Is Not Meant to Be”, “Lucidity”, and “Expectation” from their 2010 album Innerspeaker. The most cheers, however, came after a mindblowingly amazing cover of Massive Attack’s “Angel”, which you may remember is the first track off their hugely successful 1998 album Mezzanine…

No Age opened up for Cold War Kids in an oddly paired show that was moved from Radio City Music Hall to Terminal 5. No Age came out sans drums and played a set of experimental noise manipulated through keyboards, guitars and Randy Randall’s massive pedal board. The band played no songs from their catalog though maybe this was some sort of preview of new material. The band left the stage to boos and the typical “you suck” shouts from the Cold War Kids fans. Oddly enough the band also did have any merch with them just photocopied pieces of paper that said “Recognize Love <3 No Age” (pictured below) with the slogan also printed on a white bed sheet behind them on stage.

After many years of eliminating Pinkerton songs from their set list Weezer finally decided to jump on the album show bandwagon to perform album shows for both Pinkerton and The Blue Album. I opted to go to the Pinkerton show as Blue tracks have always been sprinkled throughout their set lists. Even after seeing album shows for The Pixies and Jimmy Eat World among others, I would hands down say this was my favorite. The band started the night starting with their current album Hurly and going backward through their career. Though the newer songs are a not their finest moment, I think you would find even the most elitist classic Weezer hipster purist hard pressed not to smile as Rivers jumped off trampolines and ran around the VIP area belting out the tracks like “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived.”
A surprise and highlight of the night came when Rivers shouted “1995 – B-sides!” and they broke into the Angus soundtrack jam “You Gave Your Love To Me Softly” into “Susanne” and “Jaime.” It was a rare treat to hear these songs played right into “Only In Dreams” before an intermission in which longtime roadie, webmaster etc. Karl…
