ANVIL the story of anvil blender theatre new york city

ANVIL took the stage last night after a premiere of their documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil. This band has been together longer than I have been alive and they still rock pretty hard. The film is definitely recommended as it walks the fine line whether you should be laughing with or at the band. In the middle of the film it takes a turn where you really get to know the members and you begin rooting for them, since they never got their fair shake at success. Plus their classic “Metal on Metal” rips way harder than any Bon Jovi song does.

I saw Anvil in London, Ontario in the 80s. I was in Grade …, 10 (I think) and went to visit my brother who was at the University of Western Ontario. Anvil played a venue that had hosted some legendary punk shows over the years. “Metal On Metal” was a mainstay on my turntable, at that time, and I was totally revved when I found out they were playing in London. They played with such power and presence that they could easily have moved a whole stadium, which numerous metal bands did in those days. They were great live and I got a t-shirt, which I’m sure would fit me more like a hand puppet than a shirt if I were to bring it out now. Can’t wait to see the movie.

I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO ANVIL EVER SINCE “METAL ON METAL” WAS RELEASED. I SAW THEM AT L’AMOUR’S IN BROOKLYN ON TWO OCCASSIONS IN THE 80′S AND THEY WERE F*CKIN’ GREAT! NEVER KNEW A DILDO COULD BE USED IN THE WAY LIPS USED IT…HYSTERICAL. IT’S GREAT TO SEE THEM FINALLY GET THEIR DUE…IT’S ABOUT TIME. I’M 45 AND STILL LISTENING TO ANVIL. METAL RULES…LONG LIVE ANVIL!!!

SLAYER, METALLICA AND ANTHRAX SHOULD TAKE THESE BOYS ON TOUR.

Loud’n'pround member of the metalpounders union since 85. From Forged in Fire to Speed of Sound to White Rhino to I am Thirteen the guys still hammer it out.
I just saw Anvil on March 13,2009 at The Velvet Underground in Toronto. They sound as tight, loud and hard as they did in ’78. Robb stills pounds the skins as good as ever and with Lips and G5 on bass, they KICK ASS!!!!

Metal on metal is what I crave, the louder the better to turn in my grave
