Photos of Fucked Up opening up for Dinosaur Jr’s latest tour performing Bug in it’s entirety. The band played some new songs like “Queen of Hearts” and “The Other Shoe” along with favorites like “I Hate Summer” and “Son The Father”.

Atlas Sound, Bradford Cox’s (Deerhunter) other project performed at the stunning St. Cecilia’s church in Greenpoint last night, the first night of the Northside Festival. The set was heavy on new songs that reverberated beautifully through the unique acoustics of the church. Check out some photos below.

Screaming Females slayed Music Hall of Williamsburg opening with “Buried In The Nude”. Their sets have always been mind blowing and they seem to somehow get even tighter each time.

Our Concert Could Be Your Life celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Michael Azzerad’s phenomenal book Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground 1981-1991. The show contained a nice mix of contemporary bands performing roughly 10 minute sets of material from each of the bands featured in the book. The show kicked off with members of the Dirty Projecters playing a solid set of Black Flag songs including “Rise Above” and “Gimme Gimme Gimme”. Next up was Delicate Steve who took the stage to perform as The Minutemen with a guest filled set including Tim Harrington of Les Savy Fav and Lee Renaldo of Sonic Youth. Then Ted Leo covered Minor Threat on an empty stage to a pre-record tape reel, that may sound lame reading this, but it was fucking amazing as Ted performed each song with tons of energy and precision in an artful way.

Titus Andronicus had a raucous set of early Replacements tunes including “Kids Don’t Follow“, “Raised In The City” and “Treatment Bound”. St. Vincent came out and stole the show with her intense shredding while covering Steve Albini’s Big Black. Other notable performances were Dan Deacon embodying the madness that is The Butthole Surfers and Wye Oak tackling the massive fuzzed out riffs of Dinosaur Jr. Unfortunately, with this many bands playing there were some let downs including Tune-yards rendition of one Sonic Youth song (luckily Callers took the stage afterward to play 2 more, well) and Buke and Gass‘s tame Fugazi covers. I have nothing against playing the songs differently and making them your own but Buke and Gass was just completely underwhelming, though we captured some video of them so you can decide for yourself. Chicago garage rockers White Mystery took New York by storm last week with a ton of shows including stops at Public Assembly, Death By Audio, Fireproof with Nobunny and another with RVIVR at Generation Records. Check out some photos of the red haired duo below.

Yuck‘s lead singer/guitarist Daniel Blumberg came onto the stage hunched over the microphone, almost mimicking the crude drawing on their album cover as he performed each song to perfection while making it look effortless. Their lengthy set before Tame Impala found the band performing a good chunk of tracks off their self-titled album, with highlights being “Get Away”, “Georgia” and “Operation”, the only song with guitarist Max Bloom on lead vocals. If you missed them, your in luck because the band will be back in a couple weeks with a headlining set at Bowery Ballroom.

Tame Impala played an incredible show to a smoke-filled room at Webster Hall Monday night. The Aussie psych-rockers played an-hour-and-15-minute-long set, which included “It Is Not Meant to Be”, “Lucidity”, and “Expectation” from their 2010 album Innerspeaker. The most cheers, however, came after a mindblowingly amazing cover of Massive Attack’s “Angel”, which you may remember is the first track off their hugely successful 1998 album Mezzanine. In a cute but very unrock-and-roll move, frontman Kevin Parker recovered from a trance-like state at the song’s end to announce the name of the cover in a surprisingly chipper Australian accent. The band’s trippy songs are so dreamy, veering off into shoegaze-esque moments, that it felt as though they might play forever. Inevitably the show ended and to much dismay from the crowd gathered at Webster Hall.
