Have you ever tried recording concert footage with a flip cam or your iPhone…it usually sounds like FFFSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (best consonants I could use to describe static sound). Samson has luckily developed a small HD camera, the Zoom Q3HD that takes sound quality into account offering 24-bit/96kHz audio via built in condenser mics. The camera also shoots in 1080p at 30 f/s. Let’s hope that a focus on audio quality will catch on to help reduce the YouTube noise pollution on fan shot clips.
This will set you back $299 when it is released later in the fall. Find out more details then you probably need to know at Samson’s website.

Canon’s newest DSLR, the 60D is boasting some impressive new features, namely a vari-angle LCD screen which allow for shooting and different angles as well as taking HD video shooting to a new level for a DSLR. Another interesting feature is in-camera raw processing and creative filters. While the professional photograpers might be unimpressed, the creative filter addition are a nice bonus.
The filters included
- The Soft Focus effect filter helps dramatize an image and smooth over shiny reflections.
- The Grainy Black and White filter can give a different nostalgic perspective to any shot.
- Canon’s “Toy Camera” filter deliberately adds vignetting and color shift for a creative option when shooting a colorful scene.
- Users can also make a scene appear like a small-scale model, simulating the look from a tilt-shift lens, with Canon’s Miniature Effect filter, great when shooting any scene from a high vantage point.
Look for the camera to hit stores in the end of September, retailing at around $1099 or $1399 with an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens. Watch a video testing out the camera after the jump and find out more info on Gizmodo and CNet.
